How do numerology and gematria relate to each other?

Numerology and gematria are two branches of the same metaphysical family tree. They both deal with the meanings and attributes of numbers, though they are used for different purposes. Both numerology and gematria are based on the foundational concept that numbers have a universal, spiritual meaning.

Numerology is a form of divination that seeks to uncover the deeper truths behind numbers and their relation to our lives. A numerologist uses their individual skills, such as intuition or research, to interpret these meanings for wisdom and guidance. Traditionally, numerology seeks to give insight into personality traits, as well as potential life events such as relationships and career paths.

Gematria is an ancient numerical system from the Middle East that uses letters from different languages to uncover hidden meanings within words. For example, gematria takes two words with matching letters and assigns each letter a number value which then unlocks new insights into those words' connections and underlying meanings. Gematria was an important part of Jewish mysticism and has been studied for centuries by many scholars throughout the world.

The main difference between numerology and gematria is in their main purpose; numerology focuses on deciphering personal and spiritual information through interpreting individual numbers such as birthdates while gematria seeks hidden messages by connecting same letter words together with numerical values. While both methods use similar concepts – such as assigning numeric values or symbols to letters – they ultimately tackle very different tasks.
